2024 Awards Eligibility

Hi! I'm very new to this. About a year ago, I began translating my own work. I've published three stories this year, and would be grateful if you take some time to read and recommend them. If you enjoy them, please consider them for any SFFH awards ^u^

Here are my awards-eligible works for 2024:

The Face of God: A Documentary - Clarkesworld (October 2024) - Science Fiction, 2210 words - A story about humanity's encounter with God's 14-kilometer-long dead body near Earth, told as a documentary from multiple points of view, and heavily inspired by the wonderful works of Ted Chiang and Ken Liu.

To Serve the Emperor - Flash Fiction Online (October 2024) - Weird/Horror, 991 words - Let me quote Eugenia Triantafyllou here, one of my favorite contemporary authors: "This one is extra body horror with a bend for the absurd. You know I love my cannibalism but what if you combined it with a strange ruler and a desperate mother?"

Symphony of the World's Roots - The Deadlands (February 2024) - Science Fiction, 1059 words - A story about death, a visitor from space, and the life that thrives beneath our feet but is rarely noticed. The story "is told from the point of view of an alien spore that falls to Earth and integrates with the fungal network it finds. Its fall is witnessed by three people – a young boy, a farmer, and an old woman – who ultimately all die as victims of violence, providing a look at the interconnectedness of existence." - A.C. Wise for Locus.

Now, let me share a bit of backstory.

Since I've read dozens of books and hundreds of short stories in English, why not try publishing in that language? I was filled with doubt at first, and I still am, because English is not my first language. I began learning it more seriously 14 years ago, but I'm still not a native speaker. With so many incredible writers in the world, what chance do I have? I've written nearly 130 short stories in Spanish and published 17 of them in magazines and anthologies. Some of them have fortunately been well-received, so I decided to start translating a few.

I'm also very lucky to be part the Gran Colisionador de Textos Especulativos, or Large Speculative Fiction Collider, a permanent literary workshop in Spanish, and a safe space where I can work on my stories alongside others from Mexico and beyond who share similar interests and love for storytelling.

This is my first year as an English-published author. I also received a literary grant to write a short story collection, so I have a few more stories to translate. I hope you'll enjoy them in the future.
